Our Philosophy

Fairville Friends School operates in a caring relationship with Kennett Monthly Meeting and is a member of Friends Council on Education. Teachers follow guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for developmentally appropriate practice.

The program at Fairville incorporates the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. Children are nurtured in body, mind and spirit by experiences that speak to their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and creative development. Fairville children are taught conflict resolution and peacekeeping in the manner of Friends.

The school gathers daily as a community for Meeting for Worship. At this time, children and staff experience a sharing time of songs, stories, and a brief period of silence.

Literacy, numbers, and science concepts are integrated into play experiences, both indoors and out. Graphic arts, music, and movement are important components of the program as well. Children experience art endeavors daily and the school year ends with an art show, displaying the work of every child.
