Natural Learning Environment

Teachers, parents and the children at Fairville treasure the expansive and beautiful outdoor spaces that surround the school. Children spend part of every school day engaged in unstructured outdoor play, using their creativity, imagination and initiative to explore the play areas, use a wide variety of open-ended, natural materials and observe animals in their natural habitats. 

Five separate fenced play areas are included on the grounds, some designed for active, gross motor play and others for quiet reflection and exploration. Woods, a goat pasture, and a children’s garden lie within our fenced areas and help to support discovery learning and student engagement with the natural world. 

Teachers often plan purposeful outdoor activities designed to support physical growth and development, encourage scientific discovery and promote stewardship of the earth.
